Protective effect of apoptosis by oxidative damage of Tenebrio molitor larvae in H9c2 cells

Abstract
H2O2, one of the reactive oxygen species (ROS), can cause various diseases, including age-related conditions, and damage myocardial cells. However, the effect of protecting H9c2 cell death induced by oxidative stress of Tenebrio molitor larvae extracts (TME) has not been demonstrated. TME-treated H9c2 cells demonstrated the ability to induce antioxidant activity and enhanced viability of H9c2 cells exposed to H2O2. This can be suppressed by TME treatment of cell apoptosis caused by intracellular Bcl-family proteins (Bax and Bcl-2) and caspase pathways. TME-treated H9c2 cells showed restored antioxidant enzyme (catalase and superoxide dismutase) expression via H2O2 and antioxidant signaling pathways (heme oxygenase-1 and NF-E2-related factor 2) following H2O2 treatment. These results indicate that the TME suppresses oxidative stress and has a protective effect on myocardial cells.
